Nearly 200 new SSH& student housing units for Nijmegen: construction starts end of 2025
Nijmegen, June 4th 2025
SSH&, the student housing provider for Arnhem and Nijmegen, is joining forces with construction company Van Wijnen to build a brand-new student complex on the Groenewoudseweg in Nijmegen. On the site of the old GGD building, which will soon be demolished, three modern buildings will rise, offering a total of nearly 200 student rooms.
In the presence of enthusiastic students, Kees Stunnenberg, Managing Director of SSH&, and Fabian Bovenlander, Director of Van Wijnen Arnhem, signed the construction agreement on Tuesday afternoon, 3 June. Construction is set to begin at the end of 2025.
With this development, SSH& is taking an important step toward addressing the growing shortage of student housing in Nijmegen. At the end of 2022, the municipality sold the land to SSH&, clearing the way for this ambitious project on the corner of Groenewoudseweg and Professor Bellefroidstraat.
The design of the complex, by opZoom architects, combines functionality with a contemporary and sustainable character. It will feature independent studios along with shared facilities such as bicycle parking, a laundry room, and a communal space.
Kees Stunnenberg, Managing Director of SSH&:
"We are incredibly proud that on this iconic site, where the GGD building stood for so many years, we will soon be able to offer nearly 200 students a new home. This project is not only a response to the housing shortage, but also an investment in the future and livability of Nijmegen as a student city."
If everything goes according to plan, the first students will be able to move in at the start of the 2027 academic year.
